Are You Considering a Nose Job?

A nose job or rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. It can do everything from reshaping your facial symmetry to correcting breathing problems. However, it’s vital to know what to expect from the procedure.

It’s also important to know that a couple of different procedures can be performed during a rhinoplasty. We can help you determine if you’re a good candidate and which type of procedure we might use in your case. The providers at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center offer this guide about what you should consider before getting a nose job.

What a nose job can fix

A nose job can dramatically transform your appearance. If you’re self-conscious about your nose’s size or shape, we may be able to change it to one that makes you feel more confident. Some of the things we can fix during rhinoplasty include the following:

What a nose job can’t fix

A nose job can fix a lot of cosmetic and structural problems with your nose. However, there’s a limit to what it can do, and it’s crucial to have realistic expectations going into the procedure.

We can’t necessarily give you a specific nose. It’s not uncommon for patients to say they want a nose like a particular celebrity’s, for example, and that’s not always possible. Choosing a new nose shape is a complex decision that requires the aesthetic input of an experienced, qualified plastic surgeon.

We consider the symmetry of your facial features and aim to make your nose balanced and proportioned well compared to the rest of your face.

The different types of nose job procedures

There are three main types of nose job procedures. Which one we choose to do will likely be decided by your facial features and your preferences. They include the following:

Open rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty is a choice we make if we need to make more extensive corrections to your nose’s shape. This procedure is done with a small incision below the nostrils under the tip of your nose.

Open rhinoplasty gives the surgeon greater access to your nose, allowing for more reshaping to be done. The scars from an open rhinoplasty are well hidden by the natural curves beneath your nose.

Closed rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty makes incisions inside your nostrils, where the scars from the procedure will be completely invisible. This is the best choice if the amount of reshaping you need is minimal or if we’re doing the procedure to restore correct breathing.

Tiplasty

As you might expect from the name, the tiplasty procedure focuses only on the tip of the nose, when this is the only part of the nose that needs reshaping. It may be either an open or closed rhinoplasty, depending on your circumstances.
