How Does a Nonsurgical Nose Job Work?

Your face is the home for many of the sensory organs we use to communicate, and how it looks also shapes how people see you. Your nose sits right in the center of your face, and if you see it as being just a little off or not having the shape you want, it can make you self conscious about your looks.
This is why facial cosmetic treatments are so common, with procedures like nose jobs (rhinoplasty) being the third most popular treatment done (45,000 in 2022 alone), behind only eyelid treatments (blepharoplasty) and facelifts (rhytidectomy). While nose jobs are typically done surgically, there is a way to perform this procedure without going under the knife. Let’s learn more about a nonsurgical rhinoplasty, how it works, and what benefits the process can provide.
If you live in the Arlington, Virginia, area and you’re interested in having your nose or other cosmetic treatment done, Drs. Talal Munasifi, James Economides, and their team at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center can help.
What is a nonsurgical nose job?
With the traditional rhinoplasty process, you alter the shape of the nose through a series of alterations and grafts that can either make major cosmetic changes or correct nasal conditions. Nonsurgical rhinoplasty makes mild or moderate changes in the shape of your nose through dermal filler injections. This treatment is also popular for cosmetic treatments like smoothing fine lines and filling deep wrinkles.
This method can even out nose indentations, correct convex or concave noses, or correct asymmetrical problems in the nose’s shape.
How is it performed?
Dermal fillers are a gel injected in the nose (hyaluronic acid is the most common filler used) which works just under the skin to add volume where needed. The process itself is pretty straightforward, which consists of applying an anesthetic to the part of your nose to be treated and then filling where needed to get the desired results. A feeling of pinching or pressure is normal during the procedure, which can take up to 45 minutes depending on the amount of work being done.
Since the treatment is minimally invasive the risk of side effects is significantly less than the traditional methods, with redness, sensitivity, swelling, bruising, nausea and the chance of the filler migrating being the primary issues.
What are the benefits?
With a low-risk procedure like this as an option, there are several advantages:
- Outpatient service: this nose job takes under an hour, and you can get on with your day when it’s done
- Minor recovery time: less invasive means a lot less time healing up from it
- Far less expensive: this treatment requires a lot less work, and you pay a lot less for it
- Safe and efficient: the injections are much safer than a traditional rhinoplasty
It’s important to note that despite its many benefits, this isn’t a long-term solution and is primarily for cosmetic treatment. Once the effects of the filler wear off, you’ll need to have it done again to achieve the same look.
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty is a great way to get cosmetic work done without the lengthy and invasive work a traditional surgery would involve, but it does not permanently change your looks.
