When to Combine Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation
Time is relentless when it comes to the changes in our bodies; for years, you’ll feel you’re at your best, and then age starts to affect everything about how you feel and look. As we get older, everything inside and out changes, including our cardiovascular and digestive systems, bladder, memory, weight, and skin.
For women, this also means dealing with breast ptosis, the medical term for the sagging that happens to them as they get older. If you’re considering treatments to change how your breasts look, lifts and augmentations are common ways to help them look younger. However, we do offer what’s known as the mommy makeover that includes a comprehensive series of procedures, including both for your breasts.
If you live in the Arlington, Virginia, area and think a mommy makeover might be the right choice, Drs. Talal Munasifi, James Economides, and the dedicated staff at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center are here for you.
Causes of sagging breasts
Your breasts are a part of you from the moment you hit puberty, and over time, age is a natural reason for sagging, but other things can affect their elasticity and firmness, such as:
- Weight changes: gaining or losing weight can affect whether or not your breasts sag
- Breast weight: how much your breasts weigh can affect when and how much they sag
- Smoking: even if you stop this dangerous habit, it can lead to sagging
- Pregnancy: how many times you’ve been pregnant, and breastfeeding can cause it
- Family history: whenever the women in your family deal with sagging, it affects when you do
Understanding breast lifts and augmentations
Also known as mastopexy, breast lifts are a common process that removes excess skin from them to raise them. This treatment may also include moving the nipple and areola (the dark circle around the nipple) and can reduce them in size if preferred. Breast lifts can also be done if implants are removed, which can change their overall shape.
Also referred to as augmentation mammoplasty or ‘boob jobs’, breast augmentations can be done using saline or silicone implants and are placed behind the chest muscle or the breast tissue. These are often done for women who want larger breasts or have lost volume in theirs due to pregnancy or losing weight.
Facts about the mommy makeover
Given the name, because it’s often done for women who’ve had children and deal with a range of body changes such as stubborn weight gain, skin changes, and sagging breasts, the mommy makeover is a service we provide to help you feel better about how you look. This process can include doing both breast augmentations and lifts to provide volume and a younger look, but breast reductions are also an option. Other treatments in this makeover include tummy tucks and liposuction.
