Breast Lift Q & A

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift, sometimes referred to as mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery to raise and reshape breasts that are deflated or sagging because of weight loss, nursing, or aging. The procedure doesn’t involve breast implants, but instead removes excess skin and reshapes your breast tissue to lift and reposition your breasts into a more lifted position. Dr. Economides can also enhance the size, shape, and location of your nipples and areolas, which can become distorted by nursing.

Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?

Dr. Economides provides comprehensive consultations to help you learn about your breast enhancement options and determine if a breast lift is right for you. You should be in good health overall and have a healthy, stable weight.

Many women opt for a breast lift to restore breasts that have become flat or elongated. The effects of gravity, pregnancy, nursing, and weight loss can all lead to sagging, deflated, or uneven breasts. Additionally, if your nipples are enlarged, fall below your breast crease, or point downward, a breast lift can restore and enhance the appearance of your breasts.

What should I expect after a breast lift?

Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure performed while you’re under general anesthesia. When Dr. Economides completes the operation, he closes your incisions with dissolvable stitches and surgical tape. After you recover from the anesthesia, he reviews your aftercare instructions and releases you to go home and recuperate.

You may have some swelling, bruising, and tenderness after your surgery, but these side effects subside within 3-5 days. However, the results of your breast lift should be noticeable right away.

You should wear a soft compression wrap or garment for the first 48 hours, but can switch to a supportive sports bra. You should avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for at least four weeks, but most patients return to work and other regular activities within a couple of days.

If you’re interested in a breast lift, call Advanced Plastic Surgery Center or schedule a consultation with Dr. Economides online today to learn how he can restore and enhance the appearance of your breasts.
