Neck Lift Q & A
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure to correct the appearance of an aging neck or sagging jawline. Your surgeon recontours and reshapes the skin beneath your chin and on your neck to create a youthful and defined jaw and neck.
Am I a good candidate for a neck lift?
For all cosmetic surgeries, you should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about what your surgeons can achieve. You might be an excellent candidate for a neck lift if you have loose skin, excess fat, or weak muscle bands in your neck. If you’re troubled by crepey skin, a turkey neck, or double chin, schedule a consultation with the experts at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center.
What happens during a neck lift?
A neck lift is an outpatient procedure performed in approximately two hours while you’re under general anesthesia. The team at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center uses techniques including liposuction, cervicoplasty, and platysmaplasty to remove extra tissue and tighten the skin on your neck.
They use liposuction to remove pockets of fatty tissue from under your chin. Cervicoplasty is the process of repositioning the skin on your neck and removing excess skin for a more taut and youthful appearance. Platysmaplasty corrects a banded appearance your neck and tightens the middle area of your neck.

What should I expect after a neck lift?
When your neck lift is complete, your surgeon closes the incisions and applies an elastic bandage to your neck and head. The bandages provide slight compression to reduce swelling.
When your anesthesia wears off, your surgeon reviews your aftercare instructions and releases you. You’ll be drowsy from the sedative and need a friend or family member to drive you home. In most cases, the over-the-counter pain medication should alleviate any post-surgical discomfort, and you should sleep on your back with your head, neck, and shoulders elevated to minimize swelling.
You have a follow-up appointment approximately a week after your surgery for your surgeon to remove your large bandages and to check your recovery. You can go back to work and your regular activities after this appointment, although you may still have some mild swelling and bruising.
If you’re troubled by loose skin on your neck, call Advanced Plastic Surgery Center or make an appointment online today to learn about your neck lift options and how your surgeon can restore your youthful appearance.
